Sura 17 - الإسراء (Al-Israa) - The Night Journey

17.11
وَيَدْعُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ بِٱلشَّرِّ دُعَآءَهُۥ بِٱلْخَيْرِ ۖ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ عَجُولًا
English: Sahih International
And man supplicates for evil as he supplicates for good, and man is ever hasty.
English: Transliteration
WayadAAu alinsanu bialshsharri duAAaahu bialkhayri wakana alinsanu AAajoolan
French: Hamidullah
L'homme appelle le mal comme il appelle le bien, car l'homme est très hâtif.
17.12
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ءَايَتَيْنِ ۖ فَمَحَوْنَآ ءَايَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَجَعَلْنَآ ءَايَةَ ٱلنَّهَارِ مُبْصِرَةً لِّتَبْتَغُوا۟ فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَلِتَعْلَمُوا۟ عَدَدَ ٱلسِّنِينَ وَٱلْحِسَابَ ۚ وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ فَصَّلْنَٰهُ تَفْصِيلًا
English: Sahih International
And We have made the night and day two signs, and We erased the sign of the night and made the sign of the day visible that you may seek bounty from your Lord and may know the number of years and the account [of time]. And everything We have set out in detail.
English: Transliteration
WajaAAalna allayla waalnnahara ayatayni famahawna ayata allayli wajaAAalna ayata alnnahari mubsiratan litabtaghoo fadlan min rabbikum walitaAAlamoo AAadada alssineena waalhisaba wakulla shayin fassalnahu tafseelan
French: Hamidullah
Nous avons fait de la nuit et du jour deux signes, et Nous avons effacé le signe de la nuit, tandis que Nous avons rendu visible le signe du jour, pour que vous recherchiez des grâces de votre Seigneur, et que vous sachiez le nombre des années et le calcul du temps. Et Nous avons expliqué toute chose d'une manière détaillée.
17.13
وَكُلَّ إِنسَٰنٍ أَلْزَمْنَٰهُ طَٰٓئِرَهُۥ فِى عُنُقِهِۦ ۖ وَنُخْرِجُ لَهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ كِتَٰبًا يَلْقَىٰهُ مَنشُورًا
English: Sahih International
And [for] every person We have imposed his fate upon his neck, and We will produce for him on the Day of Resurrection a record which he will encounter spread open.
English: Transliteration
Wakulla insanin alzamnahu tairahu fee AAunuqihi wanukhriju lahu yawma alqiyamati kitaban yalqahu manshooran
French: Hamidullah
Et au cou de chaque homme, Nous avons attaché son œuvre. Et au Jour de la Résurrection, Nous lui sortirons un écrit qu'il trouvera déroulé:
17.14
ٱقْرَأْ كِتَٰبَكَ كَفَىٰ بِنَفْسِكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكَ حَسِيبًا
English: Sahih International
[It will be said], "Read your record. Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant."
English: Transliteration
Iqra kitabaka kafa binafsika alyawma AAalayka haseeban
French: Hamidullah
«Lis ton écrit. Aujourd'hui, tu te suffis d'être ton propre comptable».
17.15
مَّنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِى لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا ۚ وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ ۗ وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّىٰ نَبْعَثَ رَسُولًا
English: Sahih International
Whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] his soul. And whoever errs only errs against it. And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And never would We punish until We sent a messenger.
English: Transliteration
Mani ihtada fainnama yahtadee linafsihi waman dalla fainnama yadillu AAalayha wala taziru waziratun wizra okhra wama kunna muAAaththibeena hatta nabAAatha rasoolan
French: Hamidullah
Quiconque prend le droit chemin ne le prend que pour lui-même; et quiconque s'égare, ne s'égare qu'à son propre détriment. Et nul ne portera le fardeau d'autrui. Et Nous n'avons jamais puni [un peuple] avant de [lui] avoir envoyé un Messager.
17.16
وَإِذَآ أَرَدْنَآ أَن نُّهْلِكَ قَرْيَةً أَمَرْنَا مُتْرَفِيهَا فَفَسَقُوا۟ فِيهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَيْهَا ٱلْقَوْلُ فَدَمَّرْنَٰهَا تَدْمِيرًا
English: Sahih International
And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction.
English: Transliteration
Waitha aradna an nuhlika qaryatan amarna mutrafeeha fafasaqoo feeha fahaqqa AAalayha alqawlu fadammarnaha tadmeeran
French: Hamidullah
Et quand Nous voulons détruire une cité, Nous ordonnons à ses gens opulents [d'obéir à Nos prescriptions], mais (au contraire) ils se livrent à la perversité. Alors la Parole prononcée contre elle se réalise, et Nous la détruisons entièrement.
17.17
وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ نُوحٍ ۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرًۢا بَصِيرًا
English: Sahih International
And how many have We destroyed from the generations after Noah. And sufficient is your Lord, concerning the sins of His servants, as Acquainted and Seeing.
English: Transliteration
Wakam ahlakna mina alqurooni min baAAdi noohin wakafa birabbika bithunoobi AAibadihi khabeeran baseeran
French: Hamidullah
Que de générations avons-nous exterminées, après Noé! Et ton Seigneur suffit qu'Il soit Parfaitement Connaisseur et Clairvoyant sur les péchés de Ses serviteurs.
17.18
مَّن كَانَ يُرِيدُ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ عَجَّلْنَا لَهُۥ فِيهَا مَا نَشَآءُ لِمَن نُّرِيدُ ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَا لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَىٰهَا مَذْمُومًا مَّدْحُورًا
English: Sahih International
Whoever should desire the immediate - We hasten for him from it what We will to whom We intend. Then We have made for him Hell, which he will [enter to] burn, censured and banished.
English: Transliteration
Man kana yureedu alAAajilata AAajjalna lahu feeha ma nashao liman nureedu thumma jaAAalna lahu jahannama yaslaha mathmooman madhooran
French: Hamidullah
Quiconque désire [la vie] immédiate, Nous nous hâtons de donner ce que Nous voulons, à qui Nous voulons. Puis, Nous lui assignons l'Enfer où il brûlera méprisé et repoussé.
17.19
وَمَنْ أَرَادَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ وَسَعَىٰ لَهَا سَعْيَهَا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ كَانَ سَعْيُهُم مَّشْكُورًا
English: Sahih International
But whoever desires the Hereafter and exerts the effort due to it while he is a believer - it is those whose effort is ever appreciated [by Allah].
English: Transliteration
Waman arada alakhirata wasaAAa laha saAAyaha wahuwa muminun faolaika kana saAAyuhum mashkooran
French: Hamidullah
Et ceux qui recherchent l'au-delà et fournissent les efforts qui y mènent, tout en étant croyants... alors l'effort de ceux-là sera reconnu.
17.20
كُلًّا نُّمِدُّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَهَٰٓؤُلَآءِ مِنْ عَطَآءِ رَبِّكَ ۚ وَمَا كَانَ عَطَآءُ رَبِّكَ مَحْظُورًا
English: Sahih International
To each [category] We extend - to these and to those - from the gift of your Lord. And never has the gift of your Lord been restricted.
English: Transliteration
Kullan numiddu haolai wahaolai min AAatai rabbika wama kana AAatao rabbika mahthooran
French: Hamidullah
Nous accordons abondamment à tous, ceux-ci comme ceux-là, des dons de ton Seigneur. Et les dons de ton Seigneur ne sont refusés [à personne].
