Sura 2 - البقرة (Al-Baqara) - The Cow

2.71 
قَالَ إِنَّهُۥ يَقُولُ إِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ لَّا ذَلُولٌ تُثِيرُ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَلَا تَسْقِى ٱلْحَرْثَ مُسَلَّمَةٌ لَّا شِيَةَ فِيهَا ۚ قَالُوا۟ ٱلْـَٰٔنَ جِئْتَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ فَذَبَحُوهَا وَمَا كَادُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ
English: Sahih International
He said, "He says, 'It is a cow neither trained to plow the earth nor to irrigate the field, one free from fault with no spot upon her.' " They said, "Now you have come with the truth." So they slaughtered her, but they could hardly do it.
English: Transliteration
Qala innahu yaqoolu innaha baqaratun la thaloolun tutheeru alarda wala tasqee alhartha musallamatun la shiyata feeha qaloo alana jita bialhaqqi fathabahooha wama kadoo yafAAaloona
French: Hamidullah
- Il dit: «Allah dit que c'est bien une vache qui n'a pas été asservie à labourer la terre ni à arroser le champ, indemne d'infirmité et dont la couleur est unie». - Ils dirent: «Te voilà enfin, tu nous as apporté la vérité!» Ils l'immolèrent alors mais il s'en fallut qu'ils ne l'eussent pas fait.
2.72
وَإِذْ قَتَلْتُمْ نَفْسًا فَٱدَّٰرَْٰٔتُمْ فِيهَا ۖ وَٱللَّهُ مُخْرِجٌ مَّا كُنتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ
English: Sahih International
And [recall] when you slew a man and disputed over it, but Allah was to bring out that which you were concealing.
English: Transliteration
Waith qataltum nafsan faiddaratum feeha waAllahu mukhrijun ma kuntum taktumoona
French: Hamidullah
Et quand vous aviez tué un homme et que chacun de vous cherchait à se disculper!... Mais Allah démasque ce que vous dissimuliez.
2.73
فَقُلْنَا ٱضْرِبُوهُ بِبَعْضِهَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُحْىِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَيُرِيكُمْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
English: Sahih International
So, We said, "Strike the slain man with part of it." Thus does Allah bring the dead to life, and He shows you His signs that you might reason.
English: Transliteration
Faqulna idriboohu bibaAAdiha kathalika yuhyee Allahu almawta wayureekum ayatihi laAAallakum taAAqiloona
French: Hamidullah
Nous dîmes donc: «Frappez le tué avec une partie de la vache». - Ainsi Allah ressuscite les morts et vous montre les signes (de Sa puissance) afin que vous raisonniez
2.74
ثُمَّ قَسَتْ قُلُوبُكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ فَهِىَ كَٱلْحِجَارَةِ أَوْ أَشَدُّ قَسْوَةً ۚ وَإِنَّ مِنَ ٱلْحِجَارَةِ لَمَا يَتَفَجَّرُ مِنْهُ ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ ۚ وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَشَّقَّقُ فَيَخْرُجُ مِنْهُ ٱلْمَآءُ ۚ وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَهْبِطُ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ بِغَٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ
English: Sahih International
Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.
English: Transliteration
Thumma qasat quloobukum min baAAdi thalika fahiya kaalhijarati aw ashaddu qaswatan wainna mina alhijarati lama yatafajjaru minhu alanharu wainna minha lama yashshaqqaqu fayakhruju minhu almao wainna minha lama yahbitu min khashyati Allahi wama Allahu bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona
French: Hamidullah
Puis, et en dépit de tout cela, vos cœurs se sont endurcis; ils sont devenus comme des pierres ou même plus durs encore; car il y a des pierres d'où jaillissent les ruisseaux, d'autres se fendent pour qu'en surgisse l'eau, d'autres s'affaissent par crainte d'Allah. Et Allah n'est certainement jamais inattentif à ce que vous faites
2.75
أَفَتَطْمَعُونَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ لَكُمْ وَقَدْ كَانَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ كَلَٰمَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ يُحَرِّفُونَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا عَقَلُوهُ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
English: Sahih International
Do you covet [the hope, O believers], that they would believe for you while a party of them used to hear the words of Allah and then distort the Torah after they had understood it while they were knowing?
English: Transliteration
AfatatmaAAoona an yuminoo lakum waqad kana fareequn minhum yasmaAAoona kalama Allahi thumma yuharrifoonahu min baAAdi ma AAaqaloohu wahum yaAAlamoona
French: Hamidullah
- Eh bien, espérez-vous [Musulmans] que des pareils gens (les Juifs) vous partageront la foi? alors qu'un groupe d'entre eux; après avoir entendu et compris la parole d'Allah, la falsifièrent sciemment.
2.76
وَإِذَا لَقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ قَالُوٓا۟ أَتُحَدِّثُونَهُم بِمَا فَتَحَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ لِيُحَآجُّوكُم بِهِۦ عِندَ رَبِّكُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
English: Sahih International
And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We have believed"; but when they are alone with one another, they say, "Do you talk to them about what Allah has revealed to you so they can argue with you about it before your Lord?" Then will you not reason?
English: Transliteration
Waitha laqoo allatheena amanoo qaloo amanna waitha khala baAAduhum ila baAAdin qaloo atuhaddithoonahum bima fataha Allahu AAalaykum liyuhajjookum bihi AAinda rabbikum afala taAAqiloona
French: Hamidullah
Et quand ils rencontrent des croyants, ils disent: «Nous croyons» et, une fois seuls entre eux, ils disent: «Allez-vous confier aux musulmans ce qu'Allah vous a révélé pour leur fournir, ainsi, un argument contre vous devant votre Seigneur! Etes-vous donc dépourvus de raison?».
2.77
أَوَلَا يَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ
English: Sahih International
But do they not know that Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare?
English: Transliteration
Awala yaAAlamoona anna Allaha yaAAlamu ma yusirroona wama yuAAlinoona
French: Hamidullah
- Ne savent-ils pas qu'en vérité Allah sait ce qu'ils cachent et ce qu'ils divulguent?
2.78
وَمِنْهُمْ أُمِّيُّونَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ إِلَّآ أَمَانِىَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَظُنُّونَ
English: Sahih International
And among them are unlettered ones who do not know the Scripture except in wishful thinking, but they are only assuming.
English: Transliteration
Waminhum ommiyyoona la yaAAlamoona alkitaba illa amaniyya wain hum illa yathunnoona
French: Hamidullah
Et il y a parmi eux des illettrés qui ne savent rien du Livre hormis des prétentions et ils ne font que des conjectures.
2.79
فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ يَكْتُبُونَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ هَٰذَا مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ لِيَشْتَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۖ فَوَيْلٌ لَّهُم مِّمَّا كَتَبَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَوَيْلٌ لَّهُم مِّمَّا يَكْسِبُونَ
English: Sahih International
So woe to those who write the "scripture" with their own hands, then say, "This is from Allah," in order to exchange it for a small price. Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn.
English: Transliteration
Fawaylun lillatheena yaktuboona alkitaba biaydeehim thumma yaqooloona hatha min AAindi Allahi liyashtaroo bihi thamanan qaleelan fawaylun lahum mimma katabat aydeehim wawaylun lahum mimma yaksiboona
French: Hamidullah
Malheur, donc, à ceux qui de leurs propres mains composent un livre puis le présentent comme venant d'Allah pour en tirer un vil profit! - Malheur à eux, donc, à cause de ce que leurs mains ont écrit, et malheur à eux à cause de ce qu'ils en profitent!
2.80
وَقَالُوا۟ لَن تَمَسَّنَا ٱلنَّارُ إِلَّآ أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَةً ۚ قُلْ أَتَّخَذْتُمْ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ عَهْدًا فَلَن يُخْلِفَ ٱللَّهُ عَهْدَهُۥٓ ۖ أَمْ تَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
English: Sahih International
And they say, "Never will the Fire touch us, except for a few days." Say, "Have you taken a covenant with Allah? For Allah will never break His covenant. Or do you say about Allah that which you do not know?"
English: Transliteration
Waqaloo lan tamassana alnnaru illa ayyaman maAAdoodatan qul attakhathtum AAinda Allahi AAahdan falan yukhlifa Allahu AAahdahu am taqooloona AAala Allahi ma la taAAlamoona
French: Hamidullah
Et ils ont dit: «Le Feu ne nous touchera que pour quelques jours comptés!». Dis: «Auriez-vous pris un engagement avec Allah - car Allah ne manque jamais à Son engagement; - non, mais vous dites sur Allah ce que vous ne savez pas».
