Sura 40 - غافر (Al-Ghaafir) - The Forgiver

40.11
قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ أَمَتَّنَا ٱثْنَتَيْنِ وَأَحْيَيْتَنَا ٱثْنَتَيْنِ فَٱعْتَرَفْنَا بِذُنُوبِنَا فَهَلْ إِلَىٰ خُرُوجٍ مِّن سَبِيلٍ
English: Sahih International
They will say, "Our Lord, You made us lifeless twice and gave us life twice, and we have confessed our sins. So is there to an exit any way?"
English: Transliteration
Qaloo rabbana amattana ithnatayni waahyaytana ithnatayni faiAAtarafna bithunoobina fahal ila khuroojin min sabeelin
French: Hamidullah
Ils diront: «Notre Seigneur, Tu nous as fais mourir deux fois et redonné la vie deux fois: nous reconnaissons donc nos péchés. Y a-t-il un moyen d'en sortir?»
40.12
ذَٰلِكُم بِأَنَّهُۥٓ إِذَا دُعِىَ ٱللَّهُ وَحْدَهُۥ كَفَرْتُمْ ۖ وَإِن يُشْرَكْ بِهِۦ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ ۚ فَٱلْحُكْمُ لِلَّهِ ٱلْعَلِىِّ ٱلْكَبِيرِ
English: Sahih International
[They will be told], "That is because, when Allah was called upon alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allah, the Most High, the Grand."
English: Transliteration
Thalikum biannahu itha duAAiya Allahu wahdahu kafartum wain yushrak bihi tuminoo faalhukmu lillahi alAAaliyyi alkabeeri
French: Hamidullah
«... Il en est ainsi car lorsqu'Allah était invoqué seul (sans associé), vous ne croyiez pas; et si on Lui donnait des associés, alors vous croyiez. Le jugement appartient à Allah, le Très Haut, le Très Grand».
40.13
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُرِيكُمْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَيُنَزِّلُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقًا ۚ وَمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ إِلَّا مَن يُنِيبُ
English: Sahih International
It is He who shows you His signs and sends down to you from the sky, provision. But none will remember except he who turns back [in repentance].
English: Transliteration
Huwa allathee yureekum ayatihi wayunazzilu lakum mina alssamai rizqan wama yatathakkaru illa man yuneebu
French: Hamidullah
C'est Lui qui vous fait voir Ses preuves, et fait descendre du ciel, pour vous, une subsistance. Seul se rappelle celui qui revient [à Allah].
40.14
فَٱدْعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ
English: Sahih International
So invoke Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, although the disbelievers dislike it.
English: Transliteration
FaodAAoo Allaha mukhliseena lahu alddeena walaw kariha alkafiroona
French: Hamidullah
Invoquez Allah donc, en Lui vouant un culte exclusif quelque répulsion qu'en aient les mécréants.
40.15
رَفِيعُ ٱلدَّرَجَٰتِ ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ يُلْقِى ٱلرُّوحَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِۦ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ لِيُنذِرَ يَوْمَ ٱلتَّلَاقِ
English: Sahih International
[He is] the Exalted above [all] degrees, Owner of the Throne; He places the inspiration of His command upon whom He wills of His servants to warn of the Day of Meeting.
English: Transliteration
RafeeAAu alddarajati thoo alAAarshi yulqee alrrooha min amrihi AAala man yashao min AAibadihi liyunthira yawma alttalaqi
French: Hamidullah
Il est Celui qui est élevé aux degrés les plus hauts, Possesseur du Trône, Il envoie par son ordre l'Esprit sur celui qu'Il veut parmi Ses serviteurs, afin que celui-ci avertisse du jour de la Rencontre,
40.16
يَوْمَ هُم بَٰرِزُونَ ۖ لَا يَخْفَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مِنْهُمْ شَىْءٌ ۚ لِّمَنِ ٱلْمُلْكُ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ لِلَّهِ ٱلْوَٰحِدِ ٱلْقَهَّارِ
English: Sahih International
The Day they come forth nothing concerning them will be concealed from Allah. To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day? To Allah, the One, the Prevailing.
English: Transliteration
Yawma hum barizoona la yakhfa AAala Allahi minhum shayon limani almulku alyawma lillahi alwahidi alqahhari
French: Hamidullah
le jour où ils comparaîtront sans que rien en eux ne soit caché à Allah. A qui appartient la royauté, aujourd'hui? A Allah, l'Unique, le Dominateur.
40.17
ٱلْيَوْمَ تُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ ۚ لَا ظُلْمَ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ
English: Sahih International
This Day every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. No injustice today! Indeed, Allah is swift in account.
English: Transliteration
Alyawma tujza kullu nafsin bima kasabat la thulma alyawma inna Allaha sareeAAu alhisabi
French: Hamidullah
Ce jour-là, chaque âme sera rétribuée selon ce qu'elle aura acquis. Ce jour-là, pas d'injustice, car Allah est prompt dans [Ses] comptes.
40.18
وَأَنذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْءَازِفَةِ إِذِ ٱلْقُلُوبُ لَدَى ٱلْحَنَاجِرِ كَٰظِمِينَ ۚ مَا لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ وَلَا شَفِيعٍ يُطَاعُ
English: Sahih International
And warn them, [O Muhammad], of the Approaching Day, when hearts are at the throats, filled [with distress]. For the wrongdoers there will be no devoted friend and no intercessor [who is] obeyed.
English: Transliteration
Waanthirhum yawma alazifati ithi alquloobu lada alhanajiri kathimeena ma lilththalimeena min hameemin wala shafeeAAin yutaAAu
French: Hamidullah
Et avertis-les du jour qui approche, quand les cœurs remonteront aux gorges, terrifiés (ou angoissés). Les injustes n'auront ni ami zélé, ni intercesseur écouté.
40.19
يَعْلَمُ خَآئِنَةَ ٱلْأَعْيُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِى ٱلصُّدُورُ
English: Sahih International
He knows that which deceives the eyes and what the breasts conceal.
English: Transliteration
YaAAlamu khainata alaAAyuni wama tukhfee alssudooru
French: Hamidullah
Il (Allah) connaît la trahison des yeux, tout comme ce que les poitrines cachent.
40.20
وَٱللَّهُ يَقْضِى بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَقْضُونَ بِشَىْءٍ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ
English: Sahih International
And Allah judges with truth, while those they invoke besides Him judge not with anything. Indeed, Allah - He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
English: Transliteration
WaAllahu yaqdee bialhaqqi waallatheena yadAAoona min doonihi la yaqdoona bishayin inna Allaha huwa alssameeAAu albaseeru
French: Hamidullah
Et Allah juge en toute équité, tandis que ceux qu'ils invoquent en dehors de Lui ne jugent rien. En vérité c'est Allah qui est l'Audient, le Clairvoyant.
